EMDR is recognised by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). EMDR is a powerful therapy that facilitates people to recover from issues that have been triggered by traumatic events. By reprocessing difficult memories, reduces distress and is especially known for treating PTSD, anxiety, depression, as well as a range of other mental health conditions and is suitable for all ages. Furthermore, I have specialist training in attachment-focus EMDR for healing relational trauma and adults abused in childhood.
For a number of years, I have worked with clients of all ages and from a diverse range of social, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, supporting the human experience. My focus is to step into your unique world and understand what you are experiencing and help to establish a real sense of who you are. This is always in a safe and confidential space, where you will feel trusted and are neither judged nor forced to make a decision that is not right for you. For some clients, only a few sessions are required for results, for others, therapy may take longer.
My aim is to build a trusting and supportive relationship, where you are heard and understood. Working together at your pace, we will explore your thoughts and feelings, which may help you gain clarity, giving you an understanding of the person you are. I will help you find ways of expressing yourself, allowing you to acknowledge what is important and look for new ways of dealing with problems, so that you can move forward to a more fulfilling life.

EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing - adults, adolescents and children
I am an EMDR practitioner, which is an evidence-base integrative psychotherapy and works effectively for PTSD, panic attacks, anxiety, depression, phobia's, pain and OCD, as well as many other mental health conditions.
EMDR therapy enables the resumption of normal information processing and integration. Specifically, EMDR addresses issues involving the past, present and future by targeting past experiences, current triggers, and future potential challenges, results in the alleviation of presenting symptoms, a decrease or elimination of distress from the disturbing memory, improved view of the self, relief from bodily disturbance, and resolution of present and future anticipated triggers.
In EMDR, specific and well-defined treatment procedures facilitate information reprocessing by utilising an approach to treatment that optimizes client stabilisation before, during, and after the reprocessing of distressing and traumatic memories and associated stimuli. The EMDR approach to psychotherapy is to facilitate the client’s innate ability to heal. Therefore, during memory reprocessing, therapist intervention is kept to the minimum necessary for the continuity of information reprocessing.
EMDR for children and adolescents (aged 9 and above)
EMDR is recognised as an effective therapy also for children and adolescents who have experienced traumatic events and PTSD by the World Health Organization, as well as by the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies. It is very common for children and adolescents to feel distressed following a trauma. In most cases symptoms improve within a few weeks. A small percentage of children and adolescents will go on to develop symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as well as other symptoms such as anxiety or hopelessness. Some children and adolescents may benefit from receiving therapeutic support to recover from the trauma and EMDR is one such therapy that can help. EMDR has also shown to help children and adolescents with a range of other psychological difficulties, including anxiety and depression.
Depression and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we can experience at some point in our lives. Through effective counselling, I will strive to help you recover motivation and perspective, in a space where you feel safe and supported, where you have a voice to be heard and understood. Depression and anxiety can leave you feeling isolated and lonely, this can be the start of your therapeutic journey and through a collaborative process, I can help you to understand and recognise signs and find ways to support and manage your symptoms.
Play is their talk and toys are their words. Early intervention with children has proven to show, that they are less likely to suffer from serious mental health issues and difficulties later in life if they receive support at an early age.
Growing evidence indicates that promoting positive mental health also improves a range of positive school outcomes, including attitudes to learning, better attendance and lower exclusion rates. I am fully trained in child safeguarding and I have Enhanced Disclosure Barring Service clearance to work with children, so little ones are in safe hands.
Many individuals can experience psychological distress following painful or traumatic events. Emotions such as anxiety, fear, and a sense of hopelessness can persist long after the event itself, often impacting daily functioning and emotional well-being. Therapy can offer a safe space to process these experiences and begin to heal. Addiction can affect individuals across all walks of life. While it may feel overwhelming, there are effective therapeutic approaches to help address the underlying causes and reduce the power of compulsive behaviours. Together, we can explore strategies that promote resilience, self-awareness, and long-term change. Life transitions such as divorce, separation, redundancy, bereavement, and relational difficulties—can feel destabilising and emotionally challenging. Whether these experiences arise in your personal or professional life, I offer a compassionate and supportive space to help you navigate these moments, reconnect with your values, and restore a sense of clarity and direction.
I understand that busy lifestyles can sometimes make attending in-person sessions challenging. To support accessibility and continuity of care, Open Therapies offers fully encrypted, end-to-end confidential therapy sessions via secure platforms such as Zoom or telephone.
I offer individualised, evidence-informed therapeutic counselling tailored to your unique needs. To discuss how I can support you, please contact me at 01753 944402. Alternatively, you can submit your details below via the “Send Message” option, and I will respond to you promptly.
I provide a therapeutic environment that fosters creative play, offering you or your child a safe and confidential space to explore thoughts and emotions. Through the use of art, play, and imagery, we can collaboratively uncover and understand personal narratives in a way that supports emotional expression and healing.
Why Talking Helps And Why It’s Not Just About Talking
Psychological research consistently demonstrates that expressing emotions can alleviate stress and support overall emotional well-being. However, meaningful change stems not simply from talking, but from how we process and reflect on our experiences.
Therapy goes beyond conversation. It offers a structured and confidential space in which self-awareness can deepen. Within a safe, empathic, and non-judgmental therapeutic relationship, we can begin to recognise patterns, understand emotional responses, and develop insight into the underlying dynamics of our difficulties.
It is through this process of reflection and exploration, with the guidance of a trained professional, that lasting emotional growth and meaningful change become possible.
How Long Will Therapy Take?
The length of therapy varies and depends on several factors, including the nature of the presenting issues and the strength of the therapeutic alliance we build together. Often, by the time someone seeks support, difficulties have become deeply embedded in their life, and it can take time to explore and address the underlying factors contributing to these challenges. That said, if a client is engaged and motivated toward change, they may begin to notice meaningful shifts within the first few weeks of our work.
Endings are an important part of the therapeutic process. I will speak with you about how we approach this from the outset, so that any eventual ending is handled thoughtfully and with care.
Before Your First Appointment
Prior to your initial session, I will email you a Working Agreement, along with my Data Protection and Privacy Policy. These documents outline the framework of our work together and must be signed and returned before we begin.
Our first session will be an assessment, during which I’ll take some time to understand your background, current concerns, and reasons for seeking therapy. I’ll also explain the different therapeutic approaches I use and how they may be helpful in addressing your needs.
If we decide to continue working together, we will then schedule a follow-up session. However, if I feel that another therapist might be better suited to support you, I will offer alternative options or provide an appropriate referral.
All documents will be sent via email, and completion is required ahead of our first meeting.
Fees, Payment, and Insurance
Session fees are as follows:
Payment is accepted in advance via bank transfer, or in cash at the time of the session. Clients wishing to use private health insurance may do so, provided their policy covers psychological therapy. I am a registered provider with several major insurers, including BUPA, Aviva, AXA Health, Vitality, Healix, Allianz, WPA, and Preferred Health Care, and I am listed on the Private Practice Register (PPR). I also hold full professional indemnity insurance.
Please note: Any professional correspondence outside of scheduled sessions, such as reports, letters, or extended email communications, may incur an additional fee. These charges typically begin at £50 and will be discussed in advance if applicable.
Keeping you safe
Confidentiality is a fundamental aspect of the therapeutic relationship and is essential for creating a safe and trusting environment. All information disclosed during therapy is treated with the strictest confidence and will not be shared with any third party without your explicit, written consent. There are, however, specific and limited circumstances in which I may be legally or ethically required to break confidentiality. These include situations where there is a significant risk of harm to yourself or others, or where there is a legal obligation to disclose information to relevant authorities. These exceptions will be clearly outlined in our therapeutic agreement.
If you have any questions or concerns about confidentiality and its limits, I welcome you to discuss them with me at any point during our work together.
Session Frequency and Cancellations
Therapy sessions are typically held on a weekly basis, as regularity supports the continuity and depth of the therapeutic process. However, I recognise that each individual’s needs and circumstances are unique. While many clients find it helpful to reserve a consistent weekly time slot, I aim to be flexible within the limits of my clinical schedule. Sessions can take place in person or remotely via secure platforms such as Zoom or, if needed, by telephone, whichever format best supports your engagement and access to therapy. If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, I kindly ask for a minimum of 48 hours’ notice. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the scheduled appointment will be charged at the full session fee, as this time has been reserved specifically for you.
